DepEd slates nat'l language teaching seminar-workshop

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has scheduled for Dec. 7-9 a national seminar-workshop on Language Teaching Across Cultures at the Monte Vista Resort in Calamba City.

Education Undersecretary for Programs and Projects Vilma Logronio Labrador said the three-day seminar, originally slated last Oct. 21-23 at the Teachers Camp in Baguio City, will be conducted by the Regional Language Center Alumni Association of the Philippines (RELCAAP).

Participants to the seminar-workshop, include DepEd regional directors, schools division superintendents and their assistants, RELC grantees, English and Filipino regional and division education supervisors in 17 DepEd regions, and department heads.

Dr. Paraluman R. Giron, Southern Tagalog-A (Calabarzon) host regional director, said the seminar-workshop seeks to:

• Gain insights on multicultural education and language teaching across continents.

• Discuss new developments in teaching language, literature and culture.

• Discuss issues and responses of language classrooms to cultural diversity, gender and ethnicity.

• Gain input on electronic collaboration for English instruction across cultures.

• Share recent research outputs on teaching English, Filipino and other languages.

• Demonstrate innovative strategies in language teaching.

• Design a language program which responds to cultural diversity, gender and ethnicity.
