MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) would provide a week-long intensive training in science and mathematics engineering to 288 teachers and incoming fourth year high school students nationwide as part of the agency’s effort to create a pool of highly-trained S&T personnel in the country.

Science Education Institute Director Ester Ogena said the students and teachers would come face-to-face with scientists and engineers during the first Science, Mathematics and Engineering Camp (SME Camp).

“The Science, Mathematics and Engineering Camp is one of our biggest collaboration with research and development institutes, professional organizations and other government institutions in our bid to provide a sustainable supply of S&T human resource in the country,” Science Secretary Estrella Alabastro said.

“It will unleash the vast potential the country has in terms of science and technology human resources,” she added. — Helen M. Flores
