DLSU-backed leadership seminar features Tony Blair

-

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University (DLSU) will again serve as the official academic partner for the world leadership seminar series being organized by Campaigns & Grey, with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair as the featured speaker on March 23 at Hotel Sofitel, Manila.

This is the second leadership seminar that the University is co-sponsoring together with a multi-sectoral group composed of business, government, civic, and media organizations. The first of the series featured former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

DLSU president Br. Armin Luistro FSC said participation in the event is in line with the University’s internationalization efforts, as it provides a venue for Lasallians to directly interact with world leaders.

Last January, La Salle also opened its doors to Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta, who is the fourth lecturer and third Nobel Laureate to visit the campus under the Bridges Lecture Series program hosted through he International Peace Foundation.

Blair became prime minister at 43. He was instrumental in the modernization of the Labour Party. He was the Labour Party’s longest-serving prime minister and the only leader to have taken the party to three consecutive general election victories.

During his premiership, he pushed for the development of the minimum wage policy and introduced constitutional reform such as devolution in Scotland and Wales. He worked to have record amounts of cash poured into schools and hospitals. He also forged a new agenda marrying free market economics with social justice. It was during his time as prime minister when London landed the 2012 Olympics, and released a debt relief package for Africa.
