Have we found the best way to educate the child today?

-

The way schools of various kinds have mushroomed these days, one would think everyone has found out the best way to educate a child. This development has actually left a lot of parents bewildered and confused, specially if they are looking for their child’s first school. Besides the usual questions about the cost, the parents often ask about the kind of education that their child will get. But what guidelines can they use to be sure that they are enrolling their child in a school that will ensure the growth of their child in body, mind and spirit?

These are the same concerns that will be addressed in the May 2009 conference with the theme, “The Foundation of Human Experience and the Challenges of Modern Life on Children’s Development and Education.” The said conference, the second to be held in the Philippines, addresses the needs of educators, parents and the public about education. The main speaker, Christof Wiechert, a Steiner school graduate, is leader of the Pedagogical Section at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland.  Conference facilitators from different countries will share their experiences in education, economy, ecology and related fields.

It is hosted by the Anthroposophical Group in the Philippines and the Manila Waldorf School, the pioneer school in the Philippines that follows a holistic approach to educating the child.

The Asia-Pacific-Anthroposophical Conference will be held at Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTE CH) in Quezon City on May 2 to 4, 2008. The last day for the early-bird registration is on Jan. 30, 2009. The early-bird registration fee is P5,500 (for Philippine locals) or $115 (from outside the Philippines).
