A thousand square meters of hope
MANILA, Philippines — At home and in school, children are molded by loving parents and caring teachers to become the hope of the nation.
Such is the case of Calero Elementary School, which serves as “second home” to 194 children and eight teachers who link hands in pursuit of education.
As the new head of the said school, I find it better to prioritize the children before our self-interest; and to cultivate a positive relationship among internal and external stakeholders to produce well-rounded and globally competitive learners who will grow into God-fearing individuals.
When the school opened five years ago, teachers taught multi-grade classes and used some temporary classrooms for an initial enrolment of 119 pupils headed by Rommel Evangelista.
This happened through the initiative of the city government and local council, which allotted funds for the construction of a building with two classrooms.
However, the land allotted for the school was halved from 1,351 to 600 sqm. due to ownership issues. From that, a wall of desolation was built little by little.
If the land will be a zone of learning, the subdivision will stand to benefit – an improved citizenry that is more passionate about the future.
Indeed, giving a thousandfold of love with a square meter of care to the promised land will yield hope to the children of Calero.
