Campus News: DLSU tops collegiate finance tiff
The De La Salle University (DLSU) won the 2017 Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition organized by the Financial Executives of the Philippines. The team was made up of accountancy and economics seniors Rolando Antonio Adrias, Josemaria Alvaro Fontillas, John Carlos Guevarra and Kaira Celina Ty.
Perry Carl Lim, an accountancy faculty member, coached the team. This is the second year that DLSU bagged the championship, winning over 21 teams from 20 Philippine schools as well as one foreign university in the final round.
UP MassComm dean awarded UNESCO national commission
Elena Pernia, dean of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Mass Communication (CMC), has been appointed to the UNESCO national commission by President Rodrigo Duterte. Pernia has been appointed to represent non-government organizations, a communication and information committee of UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines under the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). She has over 20 years worth of experience in research, planning, and evaluation of communication and media education and is the wife of Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia.
DepEd-Dasma ensures quality education for CSNs
DepEd-Dasmariñas recognizes that children with special needs (CSN) are entitled to the same right to be nurtured in conducive learning environments. Along with help from parents, local government, and religious organizations, the DepEd encourages schools to enroll CSN in Special Education (SPED) centers to ensure them equal learning opportunities. This is in line with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) commitment to providing accessible quality education for all.
NYC chairperson signs MOA improving Filipino youth education
National Youth Commission (NYC) chairperson Cariza “Aiza” Seguerra, Commissioner James Ventura, together with a representative from Edukasyon.ph, signed a memorandum of agreement that aims to improve Filipino youth education. The partnership is geared towards assisting the youth by granting access to career education as well as career counseling to help the, actualize their chosen careers. The agreement is also expected to prepare senior high school students with the help of guidance counselors and career advocates.
Gian Bagui named Nestle MILE leader awardee
Gian Bagui, a fifth year student of the Industrial Economics Program of the University of Asia and the Pacific, has been chosen as a Nestle Management Immersion for Leadership Excellence (MILE) leader. Bagui made it to the top 36 among 700 applicants from across the country and underwent a three-day intensive leadership and business training at the I’M Hotel in Makati. As Nestle’s flagship program, MILE aims to engage selected students in Nestle businesses, value and principles.
