The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Journalism of the College of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines invites journalism and mass communication students to submit entries to the 2015 Philippine Journalism Research Conference on March 13, 2015 at Cine Adarna, UP Diliman.

Research conference entries will be screened to compete in three categories namely Journalism Projects, Investigative Reports and Academic Researches. Journalism projects refer to feature stories of 500 to 700-word length or ten-minute short video while Investigative reports are investigative journalism projects for print, broadcast (20 to 30-minute video), and online. Academic researches mean thesis or full research papers on journalism and the media which will be submitted as 300-word abstract that includes the background of the study, methodology, framework and highlights of the research.

A student can only submit one entry per category but may submit a total of two entries in two separate categories while a school can submit a maximum of three entries. All entries shall have been completed or written during the academic year 2014-2015. Deadline for submission of conference entries is on February 23, 2015.

This year's research conference, the third since March 2013, expanded the categories to reflect the changing practices and structures of news making, in the context of the digitalization of media. Some 500 students are expected to attend the national conference. The activity is in line with UP Journalism Department's thrust of fostering excellence in journalism practice and research, being the Center for Excellence in Journalism of the Commission of Higher Education (CHED).

The co-organizers of the event are the University of Sto. Tomas, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication.
