Alex in Wonderland: Ateneo Children’s Theater's take on bullying

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For its 82nd production, the Ateneo Children’s Theater brings to the stage a one-of-a-kind play that exhibits a modern twist on the issue of bullying. Entitled “Alex in Wonderland,” the play directed by Ace Elgar is set to run from Jan. 31 to Feb. 8 at the Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo de Manila University.

The story revolves around a boy named Alex, who loves to read. While his friends are busy with video games and gadgets, he immerses himself in the joy of actually reading a book. Because of his perceived uniqueness, Red, the neighborhood toughie, and the other boys in his school bully him. Alex’s response is to retreat deeper and deeper into his books, shutting out the cruelty of other people.

Through a surprising twist, the two characters soon find themselves dragged into an actual video game that resembles an alternate universe which seeks justice for all bullied children.

Alex discovers that the video game is a trap for the biggest bullies, including Red. Will Alex save Red from the clutches of the royal guards or will Alex use this opportunity to get even?

The story “Alex in Wonderland” is by writer-director Floy Quintos with original music by noted musician-performer Ceejay Javier. For ticket inquiries you can contact the Registrar's Office at 4266001 loc. 7238 or 7239.
