Search on for most outstanding math teacher
MANILA, Philippines - To recognize public high school teachers’ dedication and passion in providing the best educational services to the public schools in Makati, the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmarinas (RCMD) launched once again its Search for the Most Outstanding Teacher awards. Co-sponsored by Bizu chain of restaurants, this year’s search will focus on mathematics, one of the major subjects taught in high school and the subject most students find difficult to comprehend.
Lia Francisco, RCMD President said, "Recognizing the best Math teachers is our small way of highlighting the need to encourage more students to take on science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses through to college and advanced studies if we desire to be a more advanced nation."
The RCMD started the contest as part of its commitment to “provide service above selfâ€, the club’s maxim. The club has been working along different avenues, especially in the public sector, to strengthen fellowship and Filipino camaraderie.
Participating teachers must be able to showcase their solid background and mastery in mathematical theories and computational skills while highlighting the subject’s application to everyday life. They are also expected to grasp practical application of effective and modern teaching techniques through oral communication skills, engaging rapport with students and classroom management.
In addition, the high school math teachers will be required to give an actual class demo on a specific math lesson under the auspices of the Department of Education’s prescribed curriculum for the grading period during the Rotary’s pre-scheduled classroom visits. The teachers will face a panel of judges composed of two education experts and three Rotarians. Top three teachers will receive the following prizes: P20,000 for first prize, P10,000 for second prize and P5,000 for third prize.
The RCMD is an organization that provides humanitarian services, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. After almost 18 years of service, the club has been well-regarded for its accomplishments in public service and community-building. It is a member of Rotary International.
