MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government has started installing new closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) as well as new equipment and furniture to all public elementary and high schools in the city.
To be installed at the 34 public schools, the CCTVs will not only upgrade security measures but will also serve as deterrents against bullying.
“We want to maintain excellence in the learning experience of our students enrolled in public schools. Education has always been and will be our top priority in Taguig,†said Mayor Lani Cayetano.
“We hope that these pieces of equipment will greatly improve the quality of education our public schools provide for Taguigenos. They are also meant to be used to increase security in our schools,†she added.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Director General Joel Villanueva witnessed the turnover of the equipment
Among the schools which received the new equipment is the Upper Bicutan Elementary School which was given 16 CCTV cameras.
Almost 90 CCTV cameras are now being given to selected schools in the city.
“All of these efforts are aimed at making all our schools secure,†said Cayetano, who also started an anti-bullying program in Taguig.
Luistro and Villanueva were also in Taguig to witness the distribution of armchairs made of materials from illegally cut logs confiscated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Among the school furniture that are being distributed to public schools are office tables, swivel chairs, office chairs with upholstery, bulletin boards and cards
The distribution of the furniture will continue until the second week of October when almost 518 pieces of school furniture, along with the new CCTV cameras and facilities, will be turned over to public schools.
The Taguig City government is supporting more than 27,000 scholars in the city’s public schools under a P300-million scholarship fund. Public school students also get free uniforms and school supplies from the city government.
