MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo de Manila University announced the creation of the Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS) for the K-12 reform program recommended by the Department of Education (DepEd). This announcement was made by University President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ through a memo issued last Saturday, April 20.
Villarin said the revisions have been made in the Basic Education Curriculum and the Enhanced Curriculum will be implemented for the coming school year, 2013-2014.
He also added that a “Transition Management Team†has been formed to guide Grades 7 and 8 during these crucial transition years. The transition years are expected to take a maximum of three years.
The incoming Grades 7 and 8 would be referred to as the Ateneo Junior High School. This proposal was made by the university’s Basic Education Steering Committee, tasked to supervise the transition to the K-12 reform for ADMU.
Villarin also noted that this plan is consistent with the university’s goal of eventually transitioning into a six-year high school formation program.
For the coming school year, the following levels will compose the ADMU basic education:
Primary School (Grades 1 to 4)
Middle School (Grades 5 and 6)
Junior High School (Grades 7 and 8)
High School (1st year to 4th year)
