Search open for Tubbataha youth ambassadors

As part of the celebration of 25 years of marine conservation, the Tubbataha Management Office has launched the first ever search for Tubbataha Youth Ambassadors.

The Tubbataha Youth Ambassador Program brings together the youth of Palawan and staff of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park for an amazing summer experience.

Four university students in Palawan will have the opportunity to experience the practical side of managing Tubbataha Reefs, a purely marine World Heritage Site, and become advocate for its conservation.

 

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

• One month field assignment – two weeks in the Tubbataha Ranger Station and two weeks in the Tubbataha Management Office in Puerto Princesa.

• Intermittent schedule for public outreach programs (for up to one month).

 

HOW TO APPLY

The search is open to all undergraduate students in Palawan who were enrolled in the school year 2012-2013.

Applicants should be:

• Aged 18 to 30

• Physically fit

• Skilled at communicating

• Willing to be assigned to a remote area

• Able to swim

DEADLINE

Application should be submitted by12 noon on 20 APRIL 2013.

 

SELECTION

Applicants will be short-listed to ten nominees. Short-listed nominees will be called for an interview and required to submit additional requirements.

Only four of the ten short-listed nominees will be named as the first Tubbataha Youth Ambassadors.

 

AMBASSADORS’ WORK AND ROLE

Successful candidates will stay in the Tubbataha Ranger Station for two weeks with Park staff as their supervisors and mentors. They will then spend two weeks at the Tubbataha Management Office in Puerto Princesa City.

After their field assignment, they will be deployed as advocates of Tubbataha in their schools and communities. They also will participate in educational campaigns conducted by the Tubbataha Management Office throughout the year.

• All costs and a modest stipend for expenses will be covered by the program through the support of Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.

• The Tubbataha Youth Ambassadors will be awarded a certificate at the end of their engagement.
