Pinoy, Teacher of the Year sa New Mexico, USA

Ato una kining kutluon, nigawas sa YouTube (nakabasa na sad tingali mo niini): “New York - Another Filipino has been honored as Teacher of the Year in New Mexico, USA.” Kinsa man ni siya, ug taga-diin man dinhi sa nasud?

“He is Dr. Roy Basa, who started his career as an educator in his hometown of Murcia, Negros Occidental. The New Mexico Public Education Department and the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association recognized Basa for his work as a technical education and science instructor at Twin Buttes Cyber Academy.”

Isip mga Pinoy senior citizens, ma-proud sa sad niini. Akong sabut, dili traditional ang iyang paagi sa pagtudlo. Dili sama dinhi sa ato nga ‘teacher-student’ lamang nga relationship, diin regular ang mga  estudyante.

Anyway, nia pay usa ka makapasigarbo nga headline: “3 Pinoy siblings graduate together as New York police officers.” Tulo ka magsuon, sila si Reynand Cano (30 ang edad), Reyneil (27), ug Reycard (25).  Sila karon, sakop na sa New York Police Department, uban sa laing 550 ka police graduates nga karon sakop na sa New York’s Finest. Duna pa ba tay Cebu’s Finest karon? Ug dihay akong nabasahan nga usa ka Pinoy mi-graduate summa cum laude sa Yale University sa America.

Ug dihay akong nabasahan nga usa ka Pinoy mi-graduate summa cum laude sa Yale University sa New Haven, Connecticut. Ang Yale University is a private Ivy League research university, founded in 1701, now the third-oldest institution of higher educaton. Imagine, ma-summa cum laude ka sa usa ka ngilngig mga university sa America.

Nia pay lain: Filipino SPED teacher named Alaska's 'Educator of the Year,' ug daghan pang ubang mga mga Pinoy ang mi-excel didto sa ubang kanasuran.

Balik ta ni Basa, matud niya: “Winning in any endeavor is never an 'I' but rather a 'We' victory,”

Uban sa 15 ka tuig niyang kasinatian sa science education, nagtudlo siya sa Night Class Department sa Negros Occidental High School.

Nagtudlo usab siya, isip part-time professor sa mga kolehiyo ug unibersidad sa nasud, diin iyang gi-apply ang iyang paagi sa pagtudlo o ug pag-develop further sa iyang teaching skills sa science.

Nakadawat siya og mga pasidungog,local, national, and global recognition for his dedication and excellence in education, sama sa 2024 Award for Continuing Excellence and Service from the Metrobank Foundation in the Philippines, ang 2023 ug 2024 SHELL Urban Science Educator Development Award gikan sa National Science Teaching Association, USA, ug ang 2023 Outstanding Science Educator Award gikan sa New Mexico Academy of Science.
