Banat Opinyon

What am I to say sorry for?

IYO ANTOY - Antolin dela Cerna - Banat

“What am I to say sorry for?”

Sa iyang sinuwat sa Inquirer, giulohan “I saw martial law up close and personal,” si Susan F. Quimpo, nagkanayon: “The son of Ferdinand Marcos claims to have a following among the youth today, who believe him when he says the Philippines would have been as prosperious as Singapore today had not the Edsa People Power Revolution interrupted his father’s rule.”

Kining maong mga batan-on being referred to ni Bongbong, wala pa matawo pag-declare sa military rule sa iyang amahan.

Padayon ni Quimpo: “In his ANC interview, Bongbong Marcos pointed out thousands of kilometers of roads built during his father’s administration, the self-sufficiency in rice, the adequate power generation.” Impressive kaayo.

“There were frequent power outages and electricity, too,” dugang ni Quimpo. Nahinumdom mo?”

Unsa’y solution? “The power shortages were so bad that Marcos, the father, commissioned Westinghouse to build a nuclear plant in Morong, Bataan Province, to supply power to surrounding cities and their industries.

“But the plant’s design was outdated, plagued by 4,000 defects and was sitting on a known earthquake fault line,” hinungdan nga hangtud karon wa g’yud magamit.

Si Quimpo, ka-edad ni Bongbong, apan, matud niya “It amazes me that Bongbong Marcos has a glaringly different recollection of the days under martial law.” Si Quimpo, co-editor ug co-author sa “Subversive Lives: A family Memory of the Marcos Year.”

Tipik lang kini nga account sa martial law years. Ikaw, unsa’y imong kasinatian ug nahinumdoman?
