ACG nabs 126 for cybercrimes
MANILA, Philippines — Up to 126 people were arrested across the country in February for cybercrimes, the police Anti-Cybercrime Group reported yesterday.
ACG director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said the figure is higher by 240.54 percent compared to the 37 people arrested in January.
The suspects were apprehended in 132 law enforcement operations nationwide. Seven victims were rescued, the ACG said.
Two other suspects, who are minors, were placed under the custody of social welfare officers.
“The ACG remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing efforts to combat cybercrime and ensure that criminals online are brought to justice,” Yang said in a statement.
He said 75 suspects were arrested in entrapment operations. Seven others were nabbed through the implementation of warrants to search, seize and examine computer data and 44 in the implementation of warrants of arrest.
The top five offenses committed by the suspects are estafa, grave coercion, libel, violation of Republic Act 11934, the Subscriber Identity Module Registration Act, and RA 12010 or the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act.
Yang urged the public to report to authorities people who are involved in cybercrimes.
