MANILA, Philippines — A week before the New Year’s Eve revelry, 25 injuries related to fireworks have been recorded nationwide, the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.

Eight new fireworks-related injuries were added to the 17 cases registered by 62 sentinel hospitals on Monday, according to the DOH.

The injuries due to fireworks were logged from Dec. 22 up to yesterday.

Of the number, 23 are male and two are female.

Most of the victims are 19 years old and below.

The DOH has reminded the public not to use firecrackers and instead welcome the New Year using horns or create noise with safe items such as pots and pans.

The health department also encouraged the public to watch community fireworks being organized by local government units for a safe New Year celebration.
