Guadalupe Bridge repairs set for 17 months – MMDA
MANILA, Philippines — One of the busiest bridges in Metro Manila will be repaired starting October 2025, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Rehabilitation of the Guadalupe Bridge will take around 17 months, acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said.
He said funding would come from a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The bridge needs to be reinforced to withstand the “Big One” or a 7.2-magnitude earthquake, Artes said, noting that the structure is already vulnerable to liquefaction.
Outer lanes of the Guadalupe Bridge will be closed to motorists once the repair starts. The other lanes will remain open.
The project will not affect the Pasig River Ferry Service operated by the MMDA, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.
Artes said the MMDA would come up with a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the bridge’s repair.
An average of 141,000 vehicles pass through the Guadalupe Bridge daily, he said.
