Sympathy?

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

Sympathy? This is the first public statement of Gerard Raymond Yu, the suspect who shot and killed Aniceto Mateo on EDSA in a road rage incident. He claims to be a good person; he is not evil. He also asks people not to judge him hastily. I cannot write everything I want to tell this suspect. I will say I was incensed at his statements. He didn't even apologize to the person he killed, as well as those he almost killed including the minor who had just been picked up from school. And by the way, if he asks for sympathy and all that, he practically admits to the crime, right?

He claimed to be in Iloilo at the time of the shooting. But his alibi did not hold water because based on the investigation, authorities easily checked and found out he was already in Manila before the incident. Authorities also have a lot of evidence against him. When he was arrested in Pasig, the black Mercedes was there. They noticed it had different license plates than what witnesses saw but found the license plates in question inside the vehicle. A CCTV also recorded the incident. The paraffin test also turned out positive and two guns were found, one believed to have been used in the shooting which they will confirm after ballistic testing. It was discovered both guns are not registered with the PNP-FEO, His name is also absent from their database. A good person? Not evil?

I wouldn't be surprised if this businessman is well-connected with powerful people based on his arrogance and complacency. He probably believes he can wriggle out of this one. With the amount of evidence stacked up against him, the PNP has already declared this case closed. Then I hope he starts undergoing the judicial process of arraignment, hearings, hopefully a conviction, and eventual sentencing. If this is case closed, then everything should move rapidly along. As I said before, there is no place in society for an individual like this.

There is a question that needs to be answered. How did he acquire two guns that are both unregistered with the PNP-FEO? If they used to have a license, why wasn't he given notice if the license had expired? He is aware the gun is not licensed or registered, and he still lugs it around. Unfortunately, it has killed an innocent, unarmed person. I just can't imagine if it was the child who was hit and killed. The outrage would have been severe.
