Many of us have moments turned into memories. Who can easily forget the fond memories and nostalgic moments of the past? Reminiscing the good old days becomes easy when you reach the golden years. The pre-retirement stage will allow you to recall sweet memories long gone!

Why should memories be cherished? Memories influence our actions and the things we love. We would be nothing more than a shell of a human being without our memories.

Memories strengthen our sense of identity and purpose; bond our relationships. Happy memories are an essential ingredient in present happiness. Bad memories are an integral part of our learning process. It gives individuals a framework to make sense of the present and future.

During youth, everything is new, and during old age, everything is a memory. Memories that we often treasure include:

1.) Happy moments with family and friends: Remember the family going to the beach, church, vacationing, and watching movies together? Those fun-filled moments provide us with excitement, laughter, and precious memories.

2.) Childhood memories: Who can forget outdoor games in school like patintero, tumbang preso, piko, sipa, trumpo, and many more? During the weekend, a family movie experience and a trip to the zoo are the most cherished memories for children and adults.

3.) Special events, such as birthdays and weddings: These special occasions are celebrated regularly by many families as part of Filipino traditions. The kids' birthdays are the most celebrated compared to parents.

4.) Achievements and accomplishments: School achievements and work accomplishments are often valued. It is a source of joy, pride, and reward for many people. Awards and medals are the product of hard work and determination. Work accomplishment gets recognition, promotion, and salary raise.

5.) Romantic moments: School is where it all began. It is where curiosity and the first of everything started, like the first crush, first kiss, first dance, and first love. The first romantic relationship teaches us joy and pain; identifies our strengths and weaknesses.

6.) Travel and adventure: Our first family travel experience to our ancestral land provides a better understanding and perspective of our roots. Our first individual trip and the barkada adventures tell a thousand incredible stories.

7.) Personal growth and self-discovery: With age comes wisdom. As we grow old, we become more responsible. We discover who we are and what we want to become. Significant things come to a better perspective as we set our priorities in life.

8.) Acts of kindness and compassion: The help we provide to others in material or service goes a long way. Compassion and kindness to our fellowmen are self-manifestations of our being and our spiritual values.

9.) Personal challenges: When faced with adversity, our attitude and determination to survive have inspired others. The wisdom of the old folks speaks, if there's a will, there's a way. And to become a better person, man should face his fears.

10.) Meaningful experiences. Good and bad memories have strongly influenced our attitude toward life. Treasured memories provide experiences, insights, and wisdom. So value every moment, for tomorrow, they will be memories to cherish and reflect upon.
