Among the Leni welcome to Cebu Kakampinks

Invitations and posts about the Friday/November 13 visit of Leni, Kiko and team to Cebu were all over social media this week.

Kakampinks were invited to come/welcome them, and paint the town PINK!

Some suggestions: wear pink, pink-up homes, cars, doggies. Bring/share pink ribbons with taxi/PUJ/Angkas drivers, anyone in the streets!

The messages also mentioned designated areas for kakampinks who wanted to welcome the Leni/Kiko and team: Mactan Airport, after Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Mandaue City, Archbishop Palace and other places in Cebu City.

For more information, interested kakampinks were requested to contact their Chapter leaders.

Yes, you read right. The kakampinks, volunteer supporters of Leni/Kiko and team, have organized!

Coordinated by the Cebu People’s Campaign Assembly (CPCA), the Executive Council is headed by Atty. Mocring Barcenas.

Leni supporters will be remembered in the history of Philippine politics as the committed, sincere volunteers who organized themselves by themselves, pooling all their talents, time and treasures locally, nationally, and globally to #LetLeniLead!

And the love and enthusiasm to volunteer and work hard to campaign for Leni and her team are palpable, real, and inspiring.

They smiled, laughed, and cheered whenever there were those who waved back to them in return or those who would also chant back Leni, Leni, Leni!

We experienced this up close and personal yesterday morning.

Earlier that Friday morning, a relative, an avid Leni supporter, shared two Leni-Kiko tarps with us. Then, totally unplanned, at about 9 a.m, we found ourselves among the Kakampinks along the road from the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in Mandaue City.

Curiosity was one reason we were there. Also, we wanted to personally welcome Leni and her team to Cebu! It was our simple wholehearted gesture of support for Leni who said yes to God’s call for her to serve our people, our nation.

So did the others who patiently lined up and waited for Leni and her team to pass through on her way from the Mactan Airport to Cebu City.

We were among farmers of Argao and other kakampinks from Talisay, Consolacion and Mandaue. They readily welcomed us to join their lines, even kindly offering seniors like us, a spot under the shade of a tree located near a bus stop.

A kakampink driver shared that their group of volunteers left Talisay early, at 6:30. It was about 9:10 in the morning when we observed that there were a number of them taking breakfast which one volunteer kindly and mindfully remembered to prepare for those who may not have had breakfast among the kakampinks!

No, we can confirm that there were no overflowing packed meals, mineral water and other treats associated with the bayaran hakot crowd of other candidates. In fact, the Talisay driver we lined up with bought his own mineral water while waiting for Leni and her team to pass by.

The kakampinks present where we were did not have to stay by the road while waiting.

They could have sought shelter from the hot morning sun and returned to their own selected places by the road later. But they seemed and looked happy to wait for Leni and team. They continued to line up, maintaining some distance among themselves, and wave their Leni-Kiko tarps to those inside buses, jeeps, cars , trucks and those in motorbikes.

They smiled, laughed, and cheered whenever there were those who waved back to them in return or those who would also chant back Leni, Leni, Leni!

About 3-4 motorbike drivers heckled “BBM mi!” To our surprise, spontaneously, the kakampinks shouted back, kawatan! To another who shouted Leni Lugaw, the kakampinks shouted back, Marcos magnanakaw!

In general, though, the atmosphere was festive/friendly/wholesome!

Oh, the joyful shrieks from those who waved back to Leni and especially from those able to shake hands with her!

An unforgettable experience for the Kakampinks who welcomed Leni and team to Cebu!
