We have 2 options
The Sea Games is here and most of us, if not all of us, are experiencing the fever and excitement of such an event. The Philippines is the host country for the 30th Southeast Asian Games and its opening ceremony is fast approaching .
Before then, however, and as to be expected, netizens (including myself) have turned to social media to follow updates on this big event. From the way I see it, we have two options. We as a nation can either come together with our Bayanihan spirit, or choose to be like crabs pulling each other down instead of lifting each other up.
Like everything else, especially when it comes to big events such as this, it is normal to experience hiccups, but the question I would like to ask here is, where are we choosing to place our focus on when it is our national pride that is at stake? Do we even have this in us? – national pride, that is.
There is so much fake news going around and truly it is affecting not only all those who are painstakingly investing in the success of this event, but more so in the morale of our own athletes.
While now is the time for us to forge forward into carrying our flag up high, there are those that choose to do otherwise. We win as one, as goes the theme for the SEA Games, and netizens are choosing to fight against the lack of love for country that is evident in those who would rather look into an empty cup when the cup is certainly full regardless of whatever needs to be corrected.
Now is not the time for us to focus on anomalies. It is clear that there will be a right time for this to happen. Now is the time for us Filipinos to unite.
We have been given the honor and privilege to host the SEA Games and such an opportunity is literally a chance for all of us to win as one. Winning is about having the right attitude especially in the face of adversity.
Imagine how difficult this is for all those involved in the games and as bystanders the least we can do is be a Filipino and root for our country. The choice is ours. We can either choose life or choose death.
If we continue to focus on all things wrong while the games are ongoing then we are choosing death as we are killing our own sense of national pride.
So what’s it going to be folks? We all have our roles to play, big or small. We can do our part to participate and show our support.
Like I said, we only have two options... we either unite or pull each other down. I hope we all decide on the former. If we do, then definitely, we are choosing life.
