Mayor Beatriz Duterte Durano of Danao, Cebu
The fourth centennial mayor of Danao (1965, reckoned from the arrival of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in 1565) Beatriz Duterte married Ramon Durano who became Cebu’s legendary political kingpin.
Ramon Durano was the son of Demetrio Tan Durano and Bibiana Mercado. Ramon “Manoy Amon” became the political lieutenant of Don Mariano Jesus Cuenco who became the first Cebuano Senate president. Ramon became a lawyer and for decades held the position as congressman of the old 1st Congressional District of Cebu (in 1987 it became part of the 5th Congressional District, and from thereon his son and grandchildren held the post).
Mayor Beatriz and Cong. Ramon had the following children: Beatriz (who married Emerito Calderon) and who was elected congressman of the old 5th District of Cebu in 1969, Lydia (who married Oscar Rodriguez), Ramon II (who married Pacita Ramos), Jesus Don (who married Elsa Montesclaros), Rosemarie (who married Celestino Sybico), Thadeus (who married Nimfa Presbitero), and Ramon III (who married Elizabeth Hotchkiss).
Her son, Ramon “Ramonito” III was elected congressman of the 5th District in 1987 and held the position up to 1998, then the latter’s son, Joseph Felix Mari was elected in 1998 and another son, Ramon VI, succeeded him up to 2016.
Beatriz Duterte was the daughter of Severo Duterte and Felisa Ypil. The siblings of Beatriz were: Jose (who married Petra Laurente), Carmen, Conrado (who married Adela Ibañez), Trinidad (who married Bienvenida Ralota), Leonides (who married Esmeralda Kinanahan) and Concepcion (who married Cesar Noel).
The siblings of Severo (the father of Beatriz) were: Facundo (who married Zoila Gonzalez, the mother of Ramon Duterte, the Cebu City mayor) Vicente (the Danao mayor and Davao governor), Dolores (who married Amando Osmeña), and Teodosia (who married Cornelio Diores).
A grandson (son of daughter Beatriz Durano Calderon) by the name of John Peter Calderon was elected congressman of the 7th Congressional District of Cebu, and a twin brother, Raymund Joseph, serves as the mayor of Samboan, Cebu.
A grandson (son of Rosemarie Durano Sybico) by the name of Jude Thaddeus Sybico served as board member of the 5th District of Cebu. While a granddaughter (daughter of Thadeus) by the name of Liza Marie Durano Streegan served for years as the mayor of Sogod, Cebu.
