Season's over

VERBAL VARIETY - Annie Fe Perez - The Freeman

It's the second day of us getting over the fact that we are back on track after the long holidays. I know it's kind of frustrating to go back to work or school after you've had a great time with your families and friends back home. What makes things worse the traffic jam that met your daily morning rush on the way to your destination. Add to that the many dramas going on around the society as each day progresses.

There is a lot of food in the fridge. Probably some left over ham you prepared for the new year's eve. There might also be a bottle of opened soda in the chilling bin. You're lucky to have food supply for the next couple of days. Thanks to the media noche.

Isn't it a wonder how quickly we flip the pages of the time? It feels like yesterday was the year that was and now as I step out into the doors of the new day I couldn't get that the new year has come. Spending new year away from home was quite new to me. I was on the lookout of anything that could happen on the strike of midnight while trying to enjoy a mini-celebration in a friend's house. It might not be exactly the family that I was born, but I felt the same warm welcome anyway.

Until today, I can't believe that the season is over. The time of Christmas carols, bright dancing lights and gift-giving has come to pass. There seem to be a vacuum that consumes the sands of time which passes by so quickly. Or man has become too consumed with a lifestyle that wasn't his in the first place. Others have forgotten the essence of being with loved ones and giving what they feel they need to have because of too much work and being busy all at one piece.

Well, I'm glad that all's over. There is no need to binge eat, or to rush to the malls just to buy a piece of gift for somebody (although you may give one a gift any day). I'm just happy that we all got over it so quickly that we are ready to pounce on anything that may come our way. A lot of people have been manifesting their urge to change to become a better person for 2016. Maybe I was one of them, but I couldn't promise anything. All I know is that the new week given which is part of the new year will be something I would strive for to be different. Heck, everybody is tired of failure. This time I'll try not to fall. In the mean time while I'm away, I could work on relationships that could have been fixed but was not.

Now I'm on my desk, wishing the quick break would have been longer for all of us but with the time given I think going back into the work routine gives us hope that we could apply whatever reflections we have over the weekend. It's also time to share stories, exchange correspondence and say those "I miss you!" over Facebook.

The human interaction is so much more complex now and time just seems to go with it. Today we go back to the usual with a heart full of hope that it will be day better than how it was a few days ago, when the calendar didn't flip its page.
