The Aldanese brothers of Sibonga town, Cebu

The country's first Filipino Insular Collector of Customs was a son of Sibonga, Cebu his name was Vicente Aldanese. He was the eldest son of Carlos Owens Aldanese and Carmen Figueroa Lasso de Vega. He married Luisa Rodriguez.

The younger brother of Vicente became the Municipal President of Sibonga, Cebu and had the distinction of improving the wharf of Sibonga, his name was Teodoro. In the elections of 1916, Teodoro's proclamation as Municipal President was challenged by his rival aspirant for the town's presidency, his name was Nemesio Campos.

The election protest was filed before the Court of First Instance of Cebu but the Presiding Judge, Adolph Wislizenus dismissed the case. The opponent of Teodoro raised the issue to the Supreme Court which also dismissed the case.

Teodoro Aldanese was represented by Don Filemon Yap Sotto while Nemesio Campos was represented by Francisco V. Arias, the Editor of "Ang Suga" of the newspaper published by Don Vicente Yap Sotto the younger brother of Don Filemon Sotto. Atty. Arias was a trusted political lieutenant of Don Vicente Sotto, in the elections of 1907, Arias was the Vice President of Don Vicente who ran for Municipal President of Cebu. The two won and their entire slate, but Don Vicente was not able to assume office as he was exiled in Hongkong, thus Arias assumed the Presidency.   But a year later, Arias who was Mayor of Cebu and his entire council was suspended and replaced by Governor Dionisio Jakosalem, for the reason that Arias and his council issued a resolution supporting Don Vicente Sotto.

Vicente Aldanese who became the guardian of his siblings also had a brother, the youngest, Isidoro who became Sibonga's pride as the latter was elected Congressman of the Old 4th Congressional District of Cebu composed of towns of Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete and Alcoy. The district representative to the National Assembly was dominated by the residents of Argao.

In 1907 up to 1919, it was a resident of Argao that represented the district, Alejandro Ruiz, who was the First Municipal President of Argao. In 1919, Isidoro Aldanese won the election as Congressman of the District, he held this position until 1925. Isidoro was succeeded by Juan Alcazaren, also from Argao, Cebu.

The youngest sister of Vicente, Enriqueta had the distinction of becoming the Queen of the 1st Cebu Carnival in 1914. Vicente has another sister, Anita who married a Lahato and another brother by the name of Antonio.

Vicente's grandson and namesake, Vicente Tico (son of Carlos Jose Aldanese and Pilar A. Gonzales, a sister of the owner of the famous Beehive restaurant along F. Ramos St.) is a Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Advocate, he is presently the Center Director of the We Do Recover Rehabilitation Center. Vicente Tico writes an article on Treatment and Rehabilitation in The Freeman. 

Others who became Sibonga's Chief Executive were: Constancio Ortiz, Jose Lariosa, Raymundo Balbuena, Roque Mendez, Leoncio Mercado, Gregorio Hermosisima, Rosalio Bacaltos, Atty. Epifanio Heromosisima, Vidal Patalinghug and Segundo Carillo.  The officials of Sibonga, Cebu in 1965 were: Segundino Carillo, Mayor, Delfin Desierto, Vice Mayor, Pachico A. Seares, Secretary, Woodrow Kintanar, Judge, Jesus C. Cavada, Treasurer, Primo Ordenego, Chief of Police, Dr. Filomeno Rizada, Health Officer. Councilors: Dominadora S. Diaz, Filomeno V. Cudira, Leandro H. Teves, Zosimo D. Campos, Angel S. Diez, Alberto G. Pescadero, Pastor C. Sarnillo and Marcos R. Redoble.

Pacheco A. Seares, the town Secretary became a lawyer on March 6, 1964. His two brothers also became lawyers, making them the trio lawyer brothers of Sibonga. Ramon Jr.  was admitted to the Bar on January 21, 1955 and Herminio became a lawyer on March 18, 1965.  The Seares brothers were the sons of Ramon Seares and Purificacion Alicaya Seares. Atty. Pachico, nicknamed Cheking became Editor of the University of the Visayas school organ. He also became Editor in Chief of The Freeman and wrote a well read column, POINT and COUNTERPOINT. He is the founder of Cebu News Workers Multi Purpose Cooperative organized in 1996.
