The chief executives of Daanbantayan

Daanbantayan was formerly called "Kandaya." It was derived from the name of its leader, Datu Daya. The name was given in 1834. Its parish was inaugurated on August 10, 1858. Daanbantayan's parish was once a parochial unit of Bantayan. Its patroness is "Santa Rosa de Maria."

When the new parish and pueblo was established it consisted of the barrios of Tapilon, Campatoc, Calape, Bagay, Paypay, and Bateria.

The first recorded capitan of Daanbantayan was Jose Moralde also called Don Osep Moralde, who lived in the mountains of Padyang (now called Tinubdan).

During the Spanish colonization the following served as its chief executives: Jose  Moralde, Adriano Punay, Leon Dublin, Basilio Arriesgado, Tomas Ambrosia, Pablo Coyoca, Hilario Arrogante, Miguel Arriesgado, Nonong Rosell, Crisostomo Compuesto, Dionisio Arrabis, Mariano Arriesgado, Julian Montesclaros, Pedro Montesclaros, Alejandro Moralde, Lucero Canales, Antonio Rosell, Agustin Arabis, Damaso Coyoca, Saturnino Taoc, Diego Arrojado, Cirilo Punay, Regino Rodrigo, Bernardo Malinao, Cecilio Alvares, Gregorio Corro, and Eduardo Yuson.

During the American regime, the following served as presidents: Eduardo Yuson, Pedro Canales, Gregorio Corro, Pedro Corro, Crispin Diaz, Platon Corro, Catalin Pepito.

When the Americans gave us autonomy, it made us part of the Commonwealth government: Catalino Pepito and Braulio M. Arriola Sr. (served longest as mayor of Daanbantayan, a son, Braulio A. Arriola Jr., became a lawyer on February 28, 1958 and the son of the latter, Walter M. Arriola, also became a lawyer on May 10, 1991).

Romulo Cui : Judge (Judge Cui, born in   Carcar is a descendant of Don Mariano Cui was admitted to the Bar on February 8, 1954)

Manuel S. Abella: Treasurer

Carlos Condino: Chief of Police

Dr. Augusto Lucero:Health Officer

Councilors: Lamberto Te (later to become mayor of Daanbantayan. It was during his term that Municipal Ordinance No. 3 Series of 1993 that promulgated the rules and regulations governing the cockpit operations of the town. It was later amended allowing not more than 3 cockpits, but this was later declared unconstitutional),  Antonio Luche, Cosme Arriesgado (the Arriesgado Clan of Daanbantayan produced lawyers, such as Galicano C. Arriesgado, who was admitted to the Bar March 2, 1960 and served as  an esteemed and respected Judge of the Regional Trial Court of Cebu, his son a namesake, Galicano M. Arriesgado Jr., also became a lawyer on May 8, 1997, another member of the clan, Diosdado C. Arriesgado became a lawyer on May 15, 1979), Alejandro Arreglo, Pedro Dublin, Anselma Orat, Elias Diano and Sabas Monacillo.

In 2013, a member of the Corro Clan was elected mayor, his name, Augusto "Dodong Itok" Corro. His vice mayor was Gilbert M. Arrabis Jr. (admitted to the Bar on May 10, 2006) and members of the council: Chona R. de Leon, Zenaida Abucay, Maria Bregidorietta M. Tancawan, Marilou E. Pepito, Samuel P. Moralde, Juanito Ybanez, Jupiter Roy Rosell, Emmanuel C. Benatiro, and Rex M. Novabos.

Before 2013, Maria Luisa Canete Judal Loot became its mayor and led the town to progress and to its present status.
