Used pencils

THE EAR - The Freeman

PENCILS. There's a small group of young do-gooders who go around public and private schools looking for discarded pencils by some students who can afford to buy new ones. They collect used pencils - 2 inches to 3 inches or longer thrown away by pupils or students.

USEFUL. These used pencils, regardless of length are welcomed by poor mountain children who use "uling" or charcoal for writing, according to Dolores (not her real name) leader of the youth group undertaking this civic activity. A grade six daughter of our Ear informer is a member of this group.
