THE EAR - The Freeman

BANKNOTES. A Filipino doctor working in Singapore was on vacation here recently. While here he had observed that banknotes or paper bills from cashiers in some shopping malls are crumpled, dirty, and almost rotten. He tried not to accept the change handed to him by the cashier but was pinched ("gikusi") by his wife. "Meaning, don't make a scene."

CRISP BILLS. The doctor said in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) paper bills in circulation are crisp and clean. "Mura'g gikan pa sa printing press," he said. "Dili ba na mahimo nato dinhi?" he asked his wife, a bookkeeper.
