LUSTY CHEERS. Many homes in the city's barangays resounded with lusty cheers Saturday night as Gilas Pilipinas, our National cage team, played heads-up basketball against the favored Croatia five. The regular TV programs were set aside in favor of the Gilas game.

WRONG GUESS. Many cage fans watched the game simply because they're basketball aficionados, little expecting that they would be seeing the Gilas squad nearly beating the highly favored Croats. Our Ear informer said he heard someone say: "Dili unta ko motan-aw sa TV kay naku ba ihawon ra ta. Sayop ang tag-an ko."

THE SCORE. Of course, you now know Gilas lost in overtime, 81-78, but it was a lose that still made many fans happy as they expected an even worse defeat.
