Give Noynoy all the rope he needs
Come to think of it, after the initial shock and anger, it may actually be good that Noynoy is now toying with the idea of a second term. And with less than two years remaining in his term, he should now start setting loose his attack dogs against the Constitution. They must be able to quickly rip apart the constitutional term limits that stand in his way. Or else he can run out of time.
I am now for Noynoy to tamper with the Constitution because I am interested to see what happens to people who tempt fate. I am fascinated by those who push the envelope because their actions almost always generate unexpected results. The unforeseen consequences of pushing against the limit are almost a guaranteed unforgetable experience.
Who knows but that Noynoy might just get what he got coming. Who knows but that he just might get what he wants. We have never seen a lynching in this country and I am not about to pray for one. But if that is what is preordained, I certainly would not want to miss it. I want to be there, to be a part of a citizenry that has finally gotten its act together, is emboldened enough to say enough is enough.
Noynoy is losing support fast. His only remaining friends are those whose friendships he bought with patronage. This is the reason why he is so mad at the Supreme Court. Because the court cut off the only means by which he can acquire money quickly and in amounts that make it possible for him to continue sustaining the illusion that his support remains unsullied.
I have actually developed a game of sorts with regard to Noynoy and his discombobulation over his affairs of state. This little game involves paying close attention to how his believers deal with the ebbs and flows of his politics. I used to note the swiftness with which Noynoy's believers would rush to his defense when attacked, or launch into hosannas at every contrived initiative he happens to push.
There is almost nothing of the sort now and it tempts me to feel sad for them, if only my glee did not always prevail. And why, indeed, will I not succumb to mirth? I cannot but find it extremely funny to see his believers silenced by the folly of their boss. Where before they were always quick to the draw in his defense or offense, now they are reduced to talking about the trees and the stars.
As much as they can, they now avoid talking about Noynoy. There is nothing worthwhile anymore about their boss, whether as a matter that needs defending or for pushing. It is as if there is now so much pain even in just saying his name. They have been betrayed but are not quite ready to give up on him yet. Well, they have roughly two years to make up their minds.
That is if Noynoy does not get lynched first. And that happens to be a very distinct and sooner possibility, given the rate with which he is making enemies, which is inversely proportionate to his losing believers. Noynoy is close to tipping the balance. He is very near going over the cliff. And the beauty of it all is that he does not even know it.
And that is why I now like it very much that he is flirting with constitutional amendments, not just to extend his term, but more importantly to clip the powers of the Supreme Court. And if you still are not convinced about the levelness of his mental competence, he even said this proudly, as if it is the best thing anybody can do to the final arbiter of the land.
Right now, because all that has transpired so far is talk, talk is what he is getting in return. But it is talk that normal leaders would take as a form of warning. Because what is up in the air is angry talk. Talk by political leaders. Talk by business leaders. Talk by church leaders. Professionals, government workers, students. Everybody is talking and talking angrily. The angry talk is directed at Noynoy.
And he still does not give a damn. Because he does not get it. He never did get it. Way back in 2010, if he truly understood what he was getting into, he would have refused to run for president. Because he did not have what it takes to be one. But he did not get it. To him the presidency was just another electronic game to while away his time.
And because he never understood what he was getting into and what the presidency was all about, he stuck to what he always was, the only son born to privilege, who always got what he wanted and would go into tantrums if he didn't. The big difference is that when he throws a fit, he shakes the very foundations of government. He undermines the integrity of governmental institutions.
But all that will come to pass. At the rate Noynoy is going, he will eventually slam into a brick wall. There is no person anywhere who can get away with slamming every institution that gets in his way. That is not how orderly societies work. That is not how orderly societies survive. When society feels threatened, it rises up in its own defense.
It is therefore good to have all this resolved once and for all. And the only way to do that is to resolve it by Noynoy's own hand. He must therefore be given as much rope as he can to hang himself. If he wants to tamper with the Constitution, go ahead. If he wants a clash with the Supreme Court, go ahead as well. In about two years we will see what happens when a goat charges a bulldozer.
