Why VP Binay has a lot of explaining to do!
Last Thursday, my friends, Engr. Douglas Gacasan, Atty. Lito Mahinay, my Tita Auring Yap and I went to the residence of his Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal to seek his blessings for our newly-formed Catholic Laity Conference of the Philippines (CLCP). As we’ve already written in this corner, during the last Holy Week, our group, the Task Force for Family & Life (TFFL) held a short reflection with prayer to seek the Lord’s guidance where we should move forward after we lost the battle of the Reproductive Health (RH) Law. Yes, it was just one of the many battles vs the RH Bill…but the war ain’t over yet!
So it was decided to disband the TFFL and create the CLCP because one of the biggest problems we faced was a very quiet Lay community who wait for the Catholic Clergy to fight the RH Bill head on. But with the Catholic Clergy not fully united vs the RH bill, it was an uphill climb for us.
A month ago, we already got the nod of Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma when we visited him in his residence. But we also wanted the nod of Cardinal Vidal… and he was elated that during the Year of the Laity as called by Pope Francis; we are creating this new Lay organization. He not only gave us his blessings, he also said to put his name on our constitution as a Spiritual Director. So with God’s grace, the CLCP will soon call for its 1st National Congress.

So now it can be told that the suggestion to have the term of Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III came from, of all people, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas. Wow! For a man who gets teary-eyed when you talk about becoming President, he certainly is totally ignorant of the 1987 Constitution that limits the term of the President to one 6-year term.
But then for a man who has held at least two top Cabinet positions, I would like to believe that Mar Roxas knows about term limits…. but was merely testing the waters on what would be the reaction of the Filipino people. Of course, many of us are incensed that he would even think about extending the term of Pres. Aquino. I really don’t know what’s going on with Mar Roxas… whenever he opens his mouth, he ends up somehow putting his foot in it! Incidentally, Roxas nearly figured in that chopper crash a couple of days ago. Hmmm, was it God’s warning to Mar Roxas?
It’s no wonder that the Liberal Party (LP) bigwigs are unashamedly pointing to Vice-Pres. Jejomar Binay as a possible “guest” candidate. This only proves that the Liberal Party, just like the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) before it, is a total failure as a political organization.
There is no doubt that through all their decades of existence, the members of the Liberal Party (LP) hasn’t grown up at all because of the inborn greed of their present crop of political leaders whose lifelong ambition is to put pass on the torch to their siblings as if these political positions are family heirlooms to pass on to generation after generation. This is why we need a National Transformation to transform our system of governance. .
I dare say that it is time for our nation to get rid of our personality politics and teach new political leaders how to run this country. Our political institutions must be strengthened and insulated from personality or cult politics because this is what is practiced in North Korea and most defunct communist countries. We were once a real democracy, but Pres. PNoy ruined it to the point that we only have two pillars left in our Democracy. Thankfully the Supreme Court has kept its independence. God bless them!
Still on Vice-Pres. Jejomar Binay call it a coincidence that as the news of VP Binay’s being eyed as a guest candidate by the LP, last Tuesday the 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu City, they had a surprise guest in the person of Atty. Rene Bondal who came to Cebu to expose the corruption of Vice-Pres. Binay in that parking building that he constructed for the City of Makati that was allegedly overpriced at P400 million.
In my book, it is not beyond VP Binay that he should face plunder charges for the construction of that parking building. Atty. Bondal was asked if his filing a case vs Binay was political motivated? Of course he denies this allegations. On the other hand, I believe that if VP Binay is seeking the Presidency, therefore we Cebuanos have the right to know what really is the truth on this particular case so we’ll know if Binay is clean or not?
But what really caught my attention is the other case that Atty. Bondal exposed…that the City of Makati bought mini-cabs or multi-cabs or second hand Suzuki mini-cabs at P230,000 each from a Cebu distributor. Now ask yourselves, especially those of our readers who recently purchased those second hand mini or multi-cabs? How much did you buy them from the importer? Mini-cabs cost less than a hundred thousand pesos each! Therefore, Mr. Binay really has a lot of explaining to do!
