That Lapu-Lapu monument in the Luneta was the subject of controversy in Manila. It was, in fact, removed from the Luneta but was returned upon the insistence of  former Senator Dick Gordon. Some so-called historians who have no love for the Mactan hero created the controversy.

They say Luneta is not the proper place to erect that Lapu-Lapu monument because he is not properly dressed. "Hahaha:" laughed my friend who lives not far from the Luneta. "How would Lapu-Lapu look in barong tagalog?"

OVERHEARD. Many are asking the City Mayor to put up bike lanes along major city streets. A reader's comment: "Bike lanes, bike lanes, basi'g mapareho ra na sa pedestrian lanes nga wa gamita sa pedestrians ug wa respetohi sa mga jeepney drivers." Another reader: "Your streets are not suitable for bike lanes." (This reader is an Australian who planned the bike and motorcycle lanes in Melbourne).
