Rape victims

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

"Yolanda Survivors Get Gov't Aid Today" --Headline. "Today" here refers to the day over six months the day violent Yolanda struck.

A police officer advised young girls in a students forum to use their head against rapists. "It will save you from harm," he said.

***

By "head" the officer meant the victim's intelligence, her presence of mind. Not literally her head unless she's hard-headed.

***

But a 15-year-old girl in Zamboanga didn't only use her head, she also used her feet, when a man tried to rape her. A news report (TF, June 9/14) said the girl, using her presence of mind, kicked the rapist in his testicles (which the girl called in Cebuano "itlog").

That's where any bastard of a man could be effectively stopped from his sexual foolishness.

Pagasa says the rainy season is here. After months of complaining about the terrible heat, it's now time for a change. The time for complaining about flash floods and overflowing canals has come. A sampling of a global climate change.

It says here that good looks increase one's chance of getting hired for a job. That's why beauty enhancing shops like the one my idol Ping Lacson used to endorse in print ads continue to do well.

***

And here's one news item that may support the foregoing item: "Phl unemployment down to 7 percent." Thank the beauty parlors for this.

When one is sick and one's movement is limited mostly to his sickroom, listening to good, quality music program on tv is a therapy of sorts. One such music program on tv that this sick Juan never fails to miss is Sam Costanilla's "Sam Enchanted Evening" on CCTN Ch. 47. Thanks for the music, Sam!

OVERHEARD. The Philippines is being pushed as wedding destination by tourism advocates. Hearing this on radio, a truck driver said: "Unsa kahay ikasulti sa mga turista kun masayod nga sa among barangay way kasal-kasal ang mga magtiayon, no?" Reply: "Aw, kataw-an mo." Reply: "Saba diha oi. Katulo ka na mabiyuda, way kasal-kasal." Reply: "Ayaw ninyo dauta ang tourism program nato oi. Paanhion ta ang mga kaslonong langyaw aron makusog negosyo ni Kumare Nitang nga paabang og boda sa kasal."
