THE EAR - The Freeman

MONK. Filipino tourists visiting a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand, were surprised to meet an elderly Buddhist monk who greeted them in Tagalog. Even their Thai tourist guide was surprised to hear an elderly Buddhist monk talk to the tourists in Filipino language.

MANILA BORN. The monk told an Ear informer who was one of the tourists that he was born in Manila but was brought to Thailand by his parents at the age of two years. He learned to speak Tagalog from a Thai temple helper who had lived in Manila.

Note: The Filipino tourists mentioned here visited Thailand before the outbreak of the political crisis there.
