Hon. Florencio S. Urot Street, Cebu City
It is the street formerly known as "8th Street" in the Cebu North Reclamation Area, from corner M.J. Cuenco Avenue within Mabolo District to Quezon Boulevard.
The Cebu City Council on June 14, 1976 on motion of Councilor Pablo U. Abella enacted City Ordinance No. 941 officially renamed a street as "Hon. Florencio S. Urot". The street naming ordinance was enacted a year after the death of the honoree who died on November 19, 1975.
Florencio was born in Tabogon on the year 1904; he was among the illustrious sons of Cebu, a law professor and practitioner, who had distinguished himself for having served the city government as councilor for 35 uninterrupted years since his election in 1940. Atty. Urot also served as city mayor from September 13, 1971 to December 31, 1971.
The ordinance was carried unanimously by the members of the council composed of then of the following: Eulogio E. Borres as presiding officer, Ronald R. Duterte as president pro tempore, Bienvenido B. Tudtud as floor leader; as members: Edgar C. Abelgas, Pablo U. Abella, Arturo L. Abellana, Emilio E. Alcoseba, George M. Baladjay, Jose V. Cuenco, Jesus S. Gabuya, Maximino F. Lazarte, Telesforo B. Rabaya, Fernando G. Rama, Franklin N. Seno, Emeterio L. Supapo, Mario R. Veloso, and Bernardo S. Zamora. The secretary to the mayor at that time was Epimaco A. Roca.
Years later, the Cebu City council established a city high school in the Mabolo District and named it as "Hon. F.S. Urot High School." This was ordained under City Ordinance No. 1180 enacted on December 14, 1984. In the ordinance, the city council appropriated the amount of three hundred ninety seven thousand nine hundred eighty two Pesos (P397,982.80) for the continuous operation of the school for 1985-1986. The ordinance appropriated the budget for the operation of the school up to 1989. It was approved by the mayor, Ronald R. Duterte, on December 27, 1984. The members of the council then were the following: Vicente A. Kintanar, Jr. as presiding officer, Franklin N. Seno, Clinton P. Gumalo, Rodolfo Y. Cabrera, Pablo U. Abella, Emmanuel B. Aznar, Jose V. Cuenco (became Mayor), Catalino M. Doronio, Jesus B. Garcia Jr., Antolin R. Jariol, Jr. Renato V. Osmeña (became vice mayor), Bienvenido B,. Tudtud and Suga-Sotto Yuvienco. The secretary to the mayor was Pablo S. Tinga.
When the school was established in 1984, the government schools offering secondary course at that time were the Cebu State College of Science and Technology, Cebu State College, Abellana National School, and Sudlon Agricultural School. These schools were already congested and could no longer accommodate more students.
More than two decades later (September 2010), the Cebu City council renamed the school as Mabolo National High School.
