The People Power events in Thailand and Ukraine were said to be patterned after the original People Power in the Phil. They both succeeded in driving away the hated leaders. But they were not exactly like the original.

The one in Thailand which until now is going on drove the Prime Minister out of Bangkok and the one in Ukraine succeeded in ousting the President but they were not bloodless like the Edsa original. Bombs and guns were used by the militant demonstrators. Blood flowed in the streets.

In both Thailand and Ukraine it was guns versus guns. In the original People Power in Edsa, rosaries and religious statues were used to stop guns and war tanks.

Mandaluyong City officials will start implementing an ordinance which fines and/or jails parents of minors who violate the law. The crackdown should be a no-nonsense effort otherwise it will just be an exercise in futility.

This Mandaluyong City ordinance against parents who cannot make their juvenile law breakers toe the parental line should be copied by the other cities who are having the same headache caused by troublesome kids.

OVERHEARD. The move to name the Mandaue-Mactan bridge "Serging Osmeña Bridge" has elicited comments, mostly favorable, from newspaper readers. A Freeman subscriber said: "Karon pa sila nahinumdum ni Serging nga maoy unang nakahunahuna paghimo anang taytayana." Another comment: "Ang mga kontra sa politika ni Serging nangatawa ug ginganlan si Serging nga buang dihang misulti diha sa Freedom Park nga iyang tukuran og taytayan ang Opon ug Mandaue."
