Vhong news: For adults only?

The newspapers say Pope Francis has expressed the desire to visit Leyte and other places ravaged by Yolanda. Whether or not this desire materializes, it still behooves us to hail the Pope for showing his concern for our problem and suffering.

The USA has come to the aid of Yolanda devastated Visayas in many forms -- food, medicines, shelters, services, manpower, even warships and warplanes. Now comes Jakks Pacific, a leading manufacturers of top quality toys distributing 11,000 toys to Tacloban kids in association with The STAR's Operation  Damayan.

Toys may just be toys or playthings. But in Yolanda ravaged places where thousands of children are starting to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives, toys can help rebuild these kids' broken lives. And so Ma'am Tilde, a Tacloban schoolteacher, is right when displayed a bond paper handwritten with: "God bless America."

During a symposium on government functions, one speaker attacked the DAF and PDAF calling them "evils in government." I was told that one high school senior took the floor and asked: "First, what are the meanings of DAF and PDAF; second, why are they evils in government?"

The speaker, known as a left-leaning militant, tried to answer the first question but apparently having difficulty with the acronyms said: "Well, anyway, they are unconstitutional fundings." My source laughed.

Nineteen Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom fighters (BIFF) were killed in a clash with government troops in Mindanao. That was last week. This was followed with 37 BIFF bandits killed in another clash. Then three more fatalities. An old man mending shoes while listening to the radio news said: "Ipadayon ang panag-engkuwentro hangtud mahurot ang kinahanglan mahurot."

OVERHEARD. Three high school girls were talking about the Vhong Navarro issue during their vacant period. One girl said: “Luoya ni Vhong sah?” Replied another girl: "Naabtan kuno siya nagpatong kang Deniece." Then someone came from nowhere saying: "For adults only ra man unta nang eksenaha sa tv. Stop it already oi." It was their teacher.
