Ishmael Limkakeng Sr. Street, Cebu City

It is the road between Jose Fortich Street and 4th Street, Happy Valley Subdivision, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

The honoree was instrumental in the development of the area, now called Limkakeng Subdivision located in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe. Ishmael Limkakeng Sr. was a respected businessman and estate developer in his time who contributed much to the welfare of Barangay Guadalupe and Cebu City in general.

He had effected the donation of some of his private lots, most prominent of which is the lot presently occupied by the Parish of the Alliance of Two Hearts at J. Fortich Street, Banawa, Cebu City.

He was conferred the Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee in 1995, he was a 1931 alumnus of the Silliman University. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Cebu-Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was also President of the Cebu Lions Club and for 16 years President of the Cebu Eastern College. It was through the efforts of Mr. Limkakeng that the Chinese Institute of the Visayas and the Cebu Chinese High School were united in 1952 under the name Cebu Chinese High School. The school changed its name on Mar. 19, 1962 to its present name, Cebu Eastern College.

Mr. Limkakeng was also chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross Educational Fund. The street named after him represents an honor and tribute to a man who is well-loved and respected in the community and who has helped in the development of the City of Cebu.

The greatness of Mr. Limkakeng was continued by his son and namesake, a Doctor of Medicine and a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas and is a Director of the Keppel Philippines Marine Inc., Keppel Cebu Shipyard and President of Josefa Realty Development Corp. and Banawa Development Corp. The Cebu City Council on motion of Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem on May 25, 2005 enacted City Ordinance No. 2044 naming the road between J. Fortich Street and 4th Street, Happy Valley Subdivision, Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, after Limkakeng.

The street naming ordinance was supported by Barangay Council Guadalupe Resolution No. 2055 dated Apr. 3, 2003. The ordinance was approved by then City Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña.
