Clarification on Yolanda donations

READER'S VIEWS - The Freeman

Dear Editors,

This is regarding your paper's article by Liv Campo entitled "Dulangon denies asking money for storm victims." While it is true that Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon did not initiate a fund drive for Yolanda victims, the DepEd Central Office, upon instructions from Secretary Armin Luistro is requesting cash donations from partners through the Landbank account mentioned in the article and the circulating Facebook posts. This donation drive is for the benefit of public school teachers and other DepEd personnel affected by the typhoon.

The Facebook posts that mention Dir. Dulangon's name and her cellphone number are not part of the Department's official call for donations. We suspect it came from a well-meaning citizen, since the Landbank account number mentioned is legitimate.

For the record, the official message and Facebook post being circulated by the DepEd Central Office can be found in the link below. We are asking donors to fax their deposit slips with their names to (+632)6318492 for transparency and tracking.

I hope this clears the matter. Please do not hesitate to contact the Communications Unit should you have any concerns. Thank you for your support to Dir. Dulangon and the DepEd in general.

Very truly yours,
