They’re scrapping windmills in California!

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

By this time, I’ll be in Israel for my first ever pilgrimage tour of the Holy Land for my TV Travelogue with Delmar Travel & Tours, which we will be writing in this corner. But since wi-fi service is intermittent, allow me to reprint an emailed response to my Oct. 3 article about that “Environmental Bombshell” that we had to put out in order to warn people about the people who warn us about global warming… which suddenly is now called climate change. This is a response by Adrian Rimando-Linegar.

“Bobit, you are so right about the myth of ‘global warming’ being a potential bombshell. Prof. Plimer is not the only scientist who has finally realized that the ‘Emperor’s got no clothes on!’  He’s one of a growing number worldwide who’s realized that if climate warming is a science, then its cons must be weighed against its pros. Climate alarmists never do this:  they speak only of contrast; their forecasts are all of doom.

They speak of CO2 as though it were a poison, without mentioning its benefits as plant food; they claim that everywhere is frying, but don’t mention that many places, including Antarctica, are growing colder.  Their own ‘Emperor’, Al Gore, turned this subjectivity into a film, which contains more science fiction than fact. Moreover, he employs that devious tyrant’s device — rhetorical omission.

Here are three examples from his ‘Inconvenient Truth’:  He claims Lake Malawi is drying up; Mt Kilimanjaro’s snows are melting and in 2003 in central Europe thousands died from the excessive summer heat.  What he doesn’t say is:  Lake Malawi has dried out periodically back as far as 8,000 BC; Mt Kilimanjaro’s snows are not melting (their core temperature is -7C!) but ablating, which happened after the trees on its lower slopes were felled, rendering the atmosphere so dry that the ice is now being ‘wicked’ away into the atmosphere; and in the winter which followed that summer, even more thousands died of the cold. In fact, the worldwide net figure is:  cold kills more than heat.

If Gore’s misleading statements are accidental, then we may dismiss him as a celebrity clown; if they are deliberate, then he is a very dangerous individual.

Gore’s favorite source, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (the IPCC) is supposed to be a consensus. It isn’t.  Their members are constantly disagreeing.  And since when was scientific discovery ever driven by consensus?  The giants of history worked mostly alone, often in the face of derision.  And can we trust the IPCC’s pronouncements?

Just recently they made two blunders of such magnitude that, had they been a government, they would have been forced to resign.  They claimed in early 2007 that “all the Himalayan glaciers are retreating and will be gone by 2035”.  But within a week their claim had been exposed as a fraud. Desperate for evidence to support their doom thesis, they quoted from an interview conducted in 1999 with an obscure Indian student whose hypothesis was:  what if the Himalayan glaciers were all to melt?  And in 2012, using IPCC data, The Times Atlas printed its latest edition showing that Greenland had shrunk by 15%. Until a contributing journalist in the UK emailed them the correct (and widely available) data — showing that the actual shrinkage was nearer 2%. Their entire print run has been compromised.  Again, using IPCC data, Gore ranted in 2008 that by 2013 all the arctic sea ice would be gone.  He was wrong. It hasn’t.”

Thanks Mr. Adrian Rimando-Linegar for sharing with me your thoughts about this global scam. Remember the wind farms of Pagudpud Bay in Ilocos Norte? Those wind farms were not exactly that many to make an environmental impact to our country. But it was a sort of tourist attraction and a symbol of the Philippine government’s feeble attempt to shift towards green energy as proof that the Philippines too is part of the global climate change initiatives. But it’s an expensive proposition for a 3rd world country.

However all those efforts to shift to a Green Energy source may soon be coming into a crashing end. This is exactly what my good friend; Prof. Chris Go of the University of San Carlos told me that in Hawaii… there were hundreds of wind farms that were being abandoned. In California alone, its wind farms comprise 80% of the world’s wind generation capacity. Yet reports that I read showed that 14,000 windmills in California were abandoned due to its costly maintenance.

Apparently, wind farms sprouted in California because of a Federal Law passed from 1981 to 1985 that gave Federal and State tax subsidies to wealthy investors, where they believe that they could recover 50% of their investment cost on these subsidies alone. These wind farms all cost these investors $2.4 billion in 1986. But it seems that wind farms were an ill-fated experiment and now these are nothing but useless piles of junk littering the California landscape. Now the Palm Beach City Council approved a law that would force those investors to remove these junk pieces as now California is leading the world in scrapping these so-called Green machines.
