Following Megan Young's crowning as Miss World, an online report from a popular US-based news outfit mentioned that Young, born to a Filipino mother and U.S. American father, actually hails from the U.S. A few Filipinos then got so riled up with the words "hail from" used in the article, as Young actually represented the Phl and not the U.S. "You see, as maybe the case in the Phl, we equate 'hail from' to 'come from'," said our Ear informer.

ACCURATE USAGE. However, both the denotation and contextual usage are accurate, as "hail from" means "to have as one's place of birth or residence" or "be a native of," the informer's friend pointed out. It turned out some people were grumbling for the wrong reasons. "Moral of the story: Refer to the dictionary before blowing your mind in rage," the friend wrapped up.
