What men fear

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

A study of human fears was made in the US. Yes, to find out what scares people the most. And it was found out that the No. 1 fear of most men is giving a speech in public.

***

This discovery made me sigh: “I am not alone.” And I'm now at ease thinking: “There must be something abnormal with men who do not fear delivering speeches in public.” Hehe.

The same study shows that more men are afraid of bugs and cockroaches but not crocodiles and snakes. Now I understand why some government officials are called crocodiles but never cockroaches.

As Banat News was celebrating its 19th anniversary last August 23, a reader called up and my assistant answered. He said he was a BN reader for years. He recalled a short novel entitled “Gugmang Napukling” by Vivian Ponte. He asked: “Siya ba ni si Rosalie V. nga author sa Intimate Moments?”

***

Let me answer that. My assistant who answered the phone call was a newcomer and did not know our Banat's very first novelist Vivian Ponte. We have lost touch with Vivian who stopped writing after his big hit “Gugmang Napukling.” No. Vivian is not Rosalie V. This answers the phone caller's query as well as the queries of other Banat News readers before him.

Reader Norbing Perez of Sikatuna St. who is now a shut-in after figuring in a car accident writes: “I have always been a fan of all college basketball teams in Cebu before my accident. I still follow the Cesafi results in The FREEMAN though... I never fail to read Gabby Malagar's reports.”

Mr. Perez says: “It would be nice if someone could help bring the Cesafi cage games on TV. I'm sure this would be welcomed by cage fans who love our collegiate teams but have turned to the NCAA and UAAP because the games are regularly telecast.”

OVERHEARD. A group of women calling themselves “Hugpong sa mga Asawang Mapinanggaon” were talking about the coming fight of Manny Pacquiao. Said one: “Kini si Inday Jinkee kon pinangga gyud niya si Manny, paundangon na niya boksing iyang bana.” Wife No. 2: “Bitaw oy, total datu na sila kaayo.” Wife No. 3: “Basta makakuwarta pa, sige boksing. Asawa ni Manny, dili na dawaton sa atong hugpong.”
