Land developer building churches

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

From the STAR's business page: "Motor vehicle sales hit record high." Who says there is poverty in Pinas?

This rise in motor vehicle sales means big money for the business people but it's contributing to the headache of traffic controllers of the country especially in Metro Manila.

Imagine car assemblers are turning out thousands of new motor vehicles every year. The automotive industry has posted its highest first semester performance with sales hitting 87,226 units, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines.

These units did not just go to the car showrooms. Most of them joined the millions of motor vehicles on the road to aggravate, for sure, the traffic situation. The NEDA says some P2.4 billion is lost daily as a result of the heavy traffic. Experts say the bad traffic situation is discouraging investors from coming in.

Reader Edgar Dimaculangan, a Pampangueño resident in Cebu for more than 40 years, said: "I am a big fan of soccer football and I watch on TV European teams play. I have noticed that before the game each team would sing its national anthem and I have observed that every member sings, at least I see everyone opening his mouth...I have not seen the Azkals sing, except Chieffy Caligdong."

A land developer is building churches in communities he has developed. "Dapat lang," says an observer. "There are many new communities – some call them newtowns – where high rise buildings dominate but no new churches for the people in these newtowns to worship in." The land developer referred to here is former Sen. Manny Villar.

There are 19 Phl dialects and languages that are made mediums of instruction up to Grade 3 under the Mother-Tongue-Based Multi-Lingual Education. My friend Daido Angel has suggested that there should be a national anthem based on these dialects and languages to enable each pupil to understand what he or she is singing.

OVERHEARD. The wife of a government official was heard speaking to a co-member of a civic club. She said: "Kapaliton na mi og bag-ong awto pero mahadlok akong bana nga dudahan nangurakot." Reply: "Ang naglakaw nga estorya ron nga grabeng tihika ni mister mo kay di pa gyud ilisdan ang inyong awto gitaya na."
