Full blast campaign

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

An American official calls North Korea a big problem for the world. Big? I think he's referring to North Korea's fat leader alone.

Although it's summer, it rains once in a while. Thank God because it helps the flowers grow. But when it rains, the taxicabs disappear. Why?

* * *

I have noticed that these days when it rains it pours. And it seems that all the rain water goes to Colon.

* * *

A TV commentator said the local election campaign is now in full blast. Thank God no one has yet been reported injured.

I have a politician friend whom I call the most experienced of all, emphasis on ex. He's ex-senator, ex-congressman, ex-mayor, ex-vice mayor, ex-councilor.

While watching a TV show on beauty, I heard a beauty product endorser say: "Beauty comes from inside." I didn't know if she was referring to lipstick inside a tube.

* * *

A barangay beauty contest candidate was heard answering a question asked by a member of the panel of judges: "Yes, duna koy angay pasalamatan sa akoang pagkamaanyag. Magpasalamat ko ni kuan...ni God...sa grasya nga iyang nahatag nako."

Levity aside now, let me give space to an opinion emailed to me concerning Sabah or North Borneo. Reader Dr. Reynante Amagos a native of Lamitan, Zamboanga but living in Cebu, expresses the following opinion:

* * *

"Instead of claiming ownership of Sabah or North Borneo, why doesn't anyone, not necessarily a member of the Sultanate, demand independence from Malaysia? You know like when Singapore split up from the Malaysian federation."

* * *

The same reader adds: "Maybe Sabah or North Borneo could be an independent nation if someone with influence would fight for it in the United Nations or any other world body."

* * *

I don't know about the wisdom or silliness of this proposal. I'm just giving it some space in this column, for what it is worth. And I think Dr. Reynante Amagos for making this humble column the sounding board of his opinion.

OVERHEARD. Two men, looking like business executives, were heard talking about the recent observance of Araw ng Kagitingan. One of them said: "Daghan Pinoy soldiers namatay alang sa Amerika." Correct, said another exec adding: "Daghang mga USAFFE veterans nangamatay na lang wa kadawat bisa'g gamay'ng pension." Said the first exec: "Busa mayrang pabayron ang Amerika sa pagkaguba sa Tubbataha reefs."
