Boracay sand

THE EAR - The Freeman

BORACAY SAND. A Cebuano science teacher brought with him a small Ziplock plastic packet of white sand from Boracay as souvenir. It was confiscated at the local airport for having been “illegally obtained.”

COMMON PRACTICE. The teacher did not complain, saying: “Basi'g ila kong arestahon.” But she said that it was common practice for tourists, domestic and foreign, to scoop some Boracay sand for souvenir. “Ako man gyud ang gitripingan oi.”
