The Pope's resignation

READER'S VIEWS - Jean Michaut - The Freeman

The resignation Pope Benedict XVI was shocking news. Even after one week of the incredible announcement, many lay people cannot believe that the successor of Peter could have reached such tragic declaration.

The people of God feel abandoned by their shepherd. Do we deserve such treatment at a time when we have so much faith in the Holy See in a period of difficulties of all sorts?

A person appointed to high position has the responsibilities to assume all his duties with total and unlimited faith until the ultimate date of call by the Lord and whatever those duties could have been.

We are in the Year of Faith announced by the Pope himself on October 11, 2012. Don't we say that faith is to be with Jesus-Christ? That faith is to believe, is life, is hope, is happiness, is strength, is light, is no fear, is everything, is wonder, is to be, is yesterday, is today, is tomorrow, is everyday, is everything, is infinity, is conquest.

Have we lost faith in the Church that Jesus built? How many amongst the 1.2 billion Catholics have unlimited faith in the teaching of the Lord and his Apostles? How many can honestly say:

My Church will never die.

My Church I will protect

My Church I serve.

In my Church, I believe.

In my Church, I trust.

In my Church, I have faith.

For my Church, I will fight.

For my Church, I will die.

Don't you think it is about time to apply the Scripture of Matthew, Chapter 10, Verses 26-28 which can be resumed as: “Silence is not an option. Be not afraid”

Let us pray that the new elected pope will enter the temple like Jesus did saying: “My house is called a house of prayers, but you are making it a den of robbers.” (Matthew 21:12-13).
