Wrong and risky road

The adverse reactions to my recent articles appearing in the social media network (www.philstar. com), are quite amusing. They remind me again of the advice jestingly given by an elder to a youngster who said that “when the facts and the truth are not on your side, pound on the table”. In this case, they angrily pound on me, as I present the facts in those series of articles.

Apparently, these people, who are cravenly hiding behind pseudonyms, are part of, or close to this administration and indirectly but critically affected by what I write. Instead of personally attacking me however, I appeal to them to stick to the issues. If they believe that I am wrong, then they should prove me wrong rather than call me names and degrade me and my profession. Their angry reactions only prove that I am telling the truth because the “truth really hurts”.

The worse part here is that, in trying to refute some points I raised and to prove me wrong, or to make it appear that I am wrong, they go to the extent of twisting my views or distorting the facts I present, or attributing to me certain matters I have not touched in my columns.

They even go to the extent of dragging and attacking the Church especially with regards to the RH bill controversy, calling me a stooge of the CBCP instead of just sticking to the issues of facts and of law I raised. For opposing the RH bill and continuing to raise objections against it despite its enactment into law by Congress, they try to discredit the Church and its teaching and to sow among our people hatred against it by singling out the faults and shortcomings of some of its prelates. They are even digging up the “Padre Damasos” of the past.

Apparently they have the notion that any debate about this bill should now cease because it is already a law duly passed by Congress and approved by the President. This is however a wrong notion because its constitutionality can still be questioned before the Supreme Court in the exercise of the latter’s power of judicial review. Indeed the fight over this RH law is not yet finished as there are now at least six petitions filed in the SC questioning its validity. The fight has merely shifted from the Halls of Congress to the Chambers of the SC where further debate and discussions in media regarding its legality and the merits of the petitions filed is now restrained because of the sub judice rule.

But these “angry reactions” in the social media network will certainly not deter me from continuing to write about the truth. Their personal attacks against me do not at all disprove or belie the truth that there is something wrong in our country because of the leftists-atheist in the Aquino administration; that our leaders are leading us astray towards the culture of death; and that the decisions and moves of PNoy put to doubt his reputation for integrity and probity and his sense of justice and fairness such that more and more of those who supported and voted for him as President in the last elections are now realizing that they have made the wrong choice.

Indeed attacking and degrading me and my profession have not at all disproven: that officials of this administration do not consider public service a public trust but a personal trust of the appointing power making “kayo ang boss ko” an empty slogan; that officials enjoying the trust and confidence of PNoy involved in anomalies are more privileged than those of the past administrations who are already publicly condemned as guilty while still undergoing trial; that there are inconsistencies in the reactions of this administration like in the Atimonan case which it initially claims to be a legitimate operation showing prior knowledge of the same, then later on completely denying approval of it and declaring that it was not a legitimate shoot out.

PNoy’s reputation for integrity and honesty has also been rendered questionable especially in aggressively pushing for the approval of the RH bill as shown by the following: when he said that he is just asking Congress to vote on the bill according to their conscience but actually pressured them to do so using the “pork barrel”; when he announced to the public that he will approve the bill after Christmas but has actually signed it already. To be sure, his image as the foremost fighter against graft and corruption has also been seriously dented not only because of the issue on the use of the pork barrel but also the existence of foreign lobbyists with tremendous financial clout particularly Bill and Melinda Gates. In fact Melinda Gates even congratulated him for the bill’s passage and he was seen in Davos together with Bill Gates. Definitely, these incidents create a very adverse perception of being both the corruptor and the corrupted.

All these facts are pointed out not to put PNoy down but to help him find and show us the “daang matuwid” we should follow. For it is only when we are “nasa katwiran” can we aptly and successfully win what we are fighting for. Modesty aside, this is in fact my rallying cry and the title of my TV program about law and justice: Kapag Nasa Katwiran, Ipaglaban Mo”. And admittedly, I am just being true to this rallying cry when it comes to my present stance on what is happening in our country.

Incidentally, this show which made a comeback late in 2012 will be on its second season starting February 16, 2013. It is really something different from the usual TV dramas as it also educates and informs people about their rights and duties under the law and the corresponding moral lessons. It has therefore both an entertainment and social value. With more viewers and sponsors, it will hopefully last longer so as to help more people.
