Sinulog 2013

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

Pit Senyor! Viva el Santo Niño!!!!

Another new year, another grand celebration for the child Jesus!

Christmas reminds us both about God the Father's love for us and also about His Son's love for us. Christmas shows us that Christ Jesus was born to bridge our reunion and our reconciliation with God our Father.

Remembering and worshipping our Child Jesus during Sinulog is, from a devotee's view, an extension of the essence of Christmas. It’s another expression of gratitude and worship to God and His Son for their love and continuing grace and blessings for all!

Sinulog is reunion time, reconciliation time too. God showed us the way back home to Him, to His family through Jesus Christ His Son. May this Sinulog bring families all back for happy reunions and reconciliation, all for the glory and honor of God!!!

Cebu is now at the height of the Sinulog mode with sounds of drums and music, hectic preparations, arrivals of guests and contingents, together with masses, novenas, and processions, adn more.

Ah, as we are abroad, we will miss the happy, warm company of the Ankan ni Baning clan who will all gather at the Gallardos! In behalf of all the ankan, we would like to say thank you sincerely to our dear Gallardo cousins, Alice (aka the one and only Samantha), Tony, Thelma, Jonas, Mylene, Evelyn, Maritess, and Marge and their extended families for making Sinulog very memorable for us all.

Tio Loloy and Tia Feling, for sure, will be with everyone, happily enjoying seeing their loved ones enjoy another Sinulog reunion that they generously started before they moved on to join the Lord. Tio Loloy and Tia Feling will be so happy to see all their children complete and together, in love and peace, welcoming their guests and continuing their family devotion to the Sto. Niño. To Tio Loloy and Tia Feling also, our continuing gratitude and prayers for their eternal peace.

Oh, we can just imagine how much laughter and joy there will be again in that reunion, especially if our brother Patok will be there. Will our other relatives from Bohol, Mindanao, and Manila also gather together for this Sinulog? Will Aki, our foster brother from Bohol, be very happy with his favorite drink again?

We remember as well all others attending the Sinulog who are here for various reasons aside from reunions: to enjoy the colorful performances, to see some celebrities up close and personal, to photograph special moments, to try on tattoos as well.

We wonder if the child waste picker we encountered some years back will still be there with old sacks loaded with thrown bottles and other items he can sell to buy food for his parents and siblings after the Sinulog Parade.

We also wonder how many of those who will join Sinulog 2013 will remember NOT to throw their garbage! May Sinulog 2013 be a waste-free, Eco-friendly celebration!!!

May all those present for Sinulog 2013 return home and retain not only the desire to keep their hearts pure and clean for God. May everyone return God's gifts for them by keeping His earth clean and forever protected and sustained.
