No firecrackers, only bamboo cannons

FIRECRACKERS. Concerned city folks expressed fear over the high-powered firecrackers prior to and during the celebration of New Year’s eve. “Wa silay rebentador didto sa bukid nga among gipuy-an,” said a vegetable farmer. “Ang karaang lantaka kun kanyon-kanyon nga kawayan maoy ilang pabuto.”

OLD PEOPLE. The farmer said old people and children “play together” with the bamboo cannon. They had been doing this, celebrating the New Year without firecrackers, for many years in keeping with their old folks’ Christmas tradition. “Nalingaw ug alegre man sab ang mga bata,” farmer said.
