 I’m writing this on Dec. 22, 2012. The nation is still rejoicing over our Janine Tugonon’s triumph in the Miss Universe contest. The end of the world on Dec. 21 was all but forgotten.

 “This is the day to remember,” says my friend Daido Angel. “For the first time in our history we have two governors.”

 “While the politicians were busy at home trying to win honors for themselves”, says Teddy H, “Janine Tugonon was busy winning honors for the country in the Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas.”

 “We lost some face with Manny Pacquiao’s KO loss but we recovered the ‘lost face’ on two counts a few weeks later,” says my octogenarian friend Noy Temiong, citing the remarkable victory of Nonito Donaire in boxing and Janine Tugonon’s second place win in the Miss Universe contest.

 Someone — a young business executive - has observed: “Our Miss Universe candidates today are more beautiful than our Miss Universe winners of many years ago.” Right or wrong? If this “someone” has in mind Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and now Janine Tugonon, I say right!

It says here that a 17-year-old woman who dances naked in a nightclub told police her mother was also a striptease dancer. Which makes her a chip off the bold block.

 OVERHEARD. A school-teacher quarreled with the emcee of a program held in an uptown venue.
