They once ruled the Cebu press
Gov. Gwen Garcia has decided to run in Cebu’s third district where knowledgeable observers say it will be, for her, like walking (not running) in the park.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes has been talking a lot lately. He’s angry at Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who just wants him to be happy.
***
PNoy has advised Trillanes to stop talking about the West Philippine Sea issue. The advice is well taken. I recall an old TF binder who used to say: “Daghan sulti, daghan sayop. Wa’y sulti, wa’y sayop.”

The driver of the taxi I took on my visit to the hospital for my periodic medical checkup, surprised me. “Di ba to ka si Mr. Jabat?” he asked. That was what surprised me.

He knows me because we happened to be co-workers in the local media some 30 years ago. I seemed to have forgotten his face. But I quickly remembered him when he said: “Si Max ko, Nitz, sa Cebu Bulletin.”
***
Max, yes, Max Elemino, the right hand man of Joe Goyangco, publisher of the now defunct Cebu Bulletin whose editor was Jules Leopando. Max owned the taxi he drove and refused to accept my money for fare.
***
Max and I had a lively talk about old times, reminiscing on Cebu newspapering and the newsmen who “ruled” Cebu media then, like Boy Veloso, Pete Calomarde, Soban Singh, Henry Redula, Dodo Embrado, Balt Quinain Sr., Doroy Mongaya, Joe Lagorte, Jules Leopando, Soban Singh, Lando Sanchez, Cesar Aleonar, etc. All of them have come home to roost in Paradise. God bless them.

E-mail from Edgar Celiz: “After winning the Jones Cup championship, our Gilas Nationals landed only fourth in the FIBA Cup. But it was only due to bad breaks. We still have a good National five.”
***
“Speaking of sports, it has been observed that local fans would feel bad everytime the Gilas Pilipinas lost in international tournaments but do not seem to care if the Azkals lost.” This from reader Edgar Celiz.

OVERHEARD. After hearing the news that Gov. Gwen Garcia has decided to quit the senatorial race, a political observer was heard saying: “Nah, wa na tay kaabibahan nga atoang kabayo sa lumba sa Senado.”
